Parc Central, a Guangzhou retail project by Hong Kong developer Sun Hung Kai, has pulled in its fifth prize, winning gold for ‘Design and Development Excellence – New Developments’ at the 2017 International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Asia Pacific Shopping Center Awards this week.

The 83,000 square metre (900,000 square foot) mall designed by global architecture firm Benoy received the award from the shopping centre industry body on October 24th during the RECon Asia-Pacific Conference in Bangkok.

Guangzhou Project Takes Home Another Prize for Benoy

“I am thrilled to be representing Benoy to receive this award from ICSC. The Benoy Team devoted a huge amount of effort to visualising and bringing Parc Central to life,” said Stephen Chow, Director at Benoy. “We truly believe good design should be blended with context and content. To be recognised for our work on Parc Central is very exciting.”

The project on Guangzhou’s Tianhe Road, which Benoy designed together with Hong Kong’s Ronald Lu and Partners, had already been recognised with a gold award by the ICSC’s China chapter in April of this year. Parc Central has previously been recognised by the China Property Awards, A&D Trophy Awards and at the MIPIM Asia Awards.

Designed as a ‘stadium for retail’ Parc Central blends low-rise above and below-ground shopping space within a multi-level parkland on the site of a former public square. Benoy’s provided the masterplan, architecture and interior design for the development in Tianhe district.

Benoy has developed a portfolio of 28 projects on the mainland including the Gala Avenue Westside in Pudong and Xuhui Vanke Center, a 328,000 square metre commercial development in Shanghai’s Xuhui district.

The ICSC Asia Pacific Shopping Center Awards are held annually to recognise excellence in marketing, design and evelopment of retail properties and retail store design in the region. Also winning at this year’s event was US developer Taubman Asia, which took home a gold award in the marketing category for its CityOn.Zhengzhou project.
